Youth leagues, 50+ Olympics registration make Parks & Rec weekly ...

Your child?s birth certificate is required at registration. All games are played at Heritage Park Baseball Fields

Clarksville?s Parks & Recreation issued its weekly report for April 8. Upcoming activities include youth league registration, a fundraiser?for the mayor?s youth council, Clarksville?s Blueway Project, new Jazz & Hip Hop dance instruction and voting for the People?s Choice Movie in the Parks After Dark Program.

The 50+ Olympics Registration Underway: Senior adults ages 50 and up can register now thru April 30 to qualify for the Early Bird rate of only $18! Registration ends May 4. Registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation office and any of our three Community Centers. This year?s events will take place May 8-12 at various locations around Clarksville, to include The Swan Lake Sports Complex and Golf Course, the Indoor Aquatic Center, The Pinnacle Bowling Center, and others. Seniors will face off for bragging rights, as well as medals in over 20 challenging events, which include shuffleboard, table tennis, track & field, bowling, swimming, disc golf and many more. Opening session will be held at the Pinnacle Bowling Alley, beginning at 11 a.m., Friday, May 4.

Friends of the Blueway: Are you interested in learning more about Clarksville?s Blueway project? If so, come to the Kleeman Community Center on Monday, April 16 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to find out how you can get involved.

Baseball, Softball & T-ball Youth Recreation Leagues: April 9 is the last day to register your child, ages 5 to 14, for our Youth Recreation Leagues. Register your child online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com, at any of our community centers or at the Main office, located at 102 Public Square.

Your child?s birth certificate is required at registration. All games are played at Heritage Park Baseball Fields. The cost to play in any of the youth recreation leagues is $35 per child and includes team shirt & hat.

Mayor?s Youth Council Fundraiser: The Mayor?s Youth Council has partnered with the Chick-fil-A and Lydia Walker to host a fundraiser night for the Nephcure Foundation. Join us Monday, April 9 from 5-8 p.m. at the Chick-fil-A on Madison Street to show your support. Chick-fil-A will donate 20% of your sale to the Nephcure Foundation.

Jazz & Hip Hop: Crow Community Center will introduce a new class for youth ages 5-16, beginning May 9. Participants will learn the basic steps and moves of hip hop and jazz by experienced professionals. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings at various times depending on age. Cost is $5 per class. People?s Choice: Voting has begun for this year?s ?people?s choice? movie. Visit parksafterdark.com, to choose what movie you want to see played at the July 21 showing of the Movies in the Park summer series. Voting ends June 30. Book Signing: Tom McKenney, author of ?Jack Hinson?s One-Man War, A Civil War Sniper? will be at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, Tuesday, April 17 from 5 to 8 p.m., to answer questions and sign your copy of his book. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
